Exhibition text
From them I made what I thought I needed, and in return they gave to me how they changed.
These ‘makings’ are more so ‘findings’ that attempt to see the unseen through the creative reasoning of material fictions. Using basic skills possessed, and what is found close to hand, the works seek to solidify what is needed or felt, gifting rather than waiting for answers. By trusting in one’s hands as instruments of understanding, objects become tools of resilience and self-sufficiency as they are collected to communicate what is reflected of oneself. However, these are transient vessels, ready to change as the needs of sense-making change and to find a peace in this flux. Components are wrapped, held and protected but then allowed to turn, rot and sprout, supported by a web of encounters and experiences within the silence of tension and balance. Eventually they are all deconstructed, reused or thrown away; not lost but gently forgotten, dislodged into transition once again.
